If you do what is right, won't you be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it. – Genesis 4:7
My wife and I served as missionaries in West Africa and during our final days before returning to the U.S., the stress was greater than I could have ever imagined. With the transition, all of the uncertainties, concerns for family, and all the good-byes, I just didn't fare well --- and I never saw it coming.
It surprised me. Like an animal crouching at my door, my emotions (maybe because they were so raw), at times, took control. After we returned and took some time to ponder the experience, I repeatedly asked myself if there was anything I could have done to prevent it from happening. Perhaps not, but I still believe I should have seen it coming.
Many times in the Scriptures, God has said, "Be alert!" We are all in a battle. Our enemy is real. This is not an illusion or myth, and he will destroy every one of our testimonies if we allow him to do it. If we forget for one moment that we are victorious in Christ, we are vulnerable. No matter how many battles we have fought and won in the past, every day is a spiritual threat.
Suit up (full armor). Be strong and very courageous. Be alert. We win, yes, but we must still fight.
Be serious! Be alert! Your adversary the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for anyone he can devour – 1 Peter 5:8.
