What Do You Know?

If anyone thinks he knows anything, he does not yet know it as he ought to know it. - 1 Corinthians 8:2

When I was 16 years old, I was pretty sure that I had life all figured out. At 21, I realized how immature I had been at 16 and confidently acknowledged that I really did finally have a grasp on life's purpose and my future. As it turned out, from that peak of intellectual prowess I began to descend through my 30's, 40's, and 50's to the point (mid-60's) where I am absolutely confident that there is very little I truly know and what I do know only matters to a few ;-)!

Knowledge is a funny thing. It is good to possess it, but better to act as if you don't. It can both "puff up" and "put down." Often gained by study, knowledge should also be tempered by observation and experience. Ultimately, knowledge has a lot to do with perspective and that perspective is altered by one's culture, identity, and eternity.

Certainly, of all the knowledge that a person might gain, knowing whose you are, knowing where you are, and knowing where you will one day be matters more than anything else.

Information is not knowledge. -  Albert Einstein
