When and Where to Roll

Peter told Him, "Even if everyone runs away, I will certainly not!" - Mark 14:29

Peter (the rock) might have been wrong, but he was never in doubt!

He was the first out of the boat, but also the first to sink.

He was the first to speak up on the mount of transfiguration, but he was also the first to be silenced.

Of course, he was also one of the first to follow, yet the first to deny knowledge of Jesus.

It seemed that if a thought or idea crossed Peter's mind it also crossed his lips and moved him to action. That is just how he rolled.

Unfortunately, many of us suffer from the same malady, but one blessing of growing older (if there is one) is that with it comes (hopefully) a little wisdom, a little restraint, and a few less embarrassing mistakes.

In other words, it is good to be a "rock," but it is helpful to learn when and where to "roll."

Zeal is fit for wise men, but flourishes chiefly among fools. - John Tillotson
