God said, "I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there." - Genesis 46:3
The story of Jacob's move from Canaan to Egypt reminds me of a line from a song. It reads, "I don't want to go somewhere, if I know that You're not there." Apparently, Jacob didn't really want to go to Egypt because he knew that God's promises were tied to the land of Canaan. If he left Canaan, he would need some assurances that God would not leave his side and that His promises would remain intact.
While it is true that God is indeed everywhere, He is not in everything that we do. Sometimes we are guilty of acting without Him, outside of His leadership. Of course, we should never desire to do something or go somewhere if God has not led us there. Perhaps, before we choose a direction, we should ask ourselves two questions: 1) Is it right? (Does it agree with God's Word?) and 2) Is it wise? (Does it make God-sense? (No, that is not a typo. Sometimes God-sense does not seem to make good sense.)
The point is that if you look to the Lord, then you will always be where He is.
In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing. - Theodore Roosevelt
